On the 15th of October 2024, Oclas Consulting, represented by Sheyi Lisk-Carew, Founder, CEO, and Strategic Advisor, had the privilege of attending an industry visit organized by the Worshipful Company of Fuellers to the Greatmoor Energy from Waste (EfW) plant in Buckinghamshire. This event offered an invaluable opportunity to explore cutting-edge practices in sustainable energy generation while positioning Oclas Consulting’s expertise in business process optimisation and maintenance strategies to support the ongoing efficiency of such facilities.

About Greatmoor EfW

Greatmoor EfW, operated by FCC Environment on behalf of Buckinghamshire County Council, is the county’s largest investment, officially starting operations in July 2016. The facility converts over 300,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste per year into electricity, powering thousands of homes. Through innovative incineration and recycling processes, Greatmoor reduces the waste sent to landfill while creating a renewable energy source.

The visit underscored how facilities like Greatmoor can benefit from well-structured maintenance optimization and process improvement strategies to ensure maximum efficiency and reliability. Oclas Consulting, with its deep expertise in these areas, is ideally positioned to support such facilities in enhancing their operational performance.

Event Highlights

The event began with a lunch at Canaletto restaurant, where participants, including members of the Fuellers and industry leaders, gathered to discuss the agenda for the day. Sheyi Lisk-Carew, along with the other attendees, shared insights on the future of sustainable energy solutions and the role of EfW facilities in reducing waste and generating power.

Following lunch, the group arrived at Greatmoor EfW, where Stephen Rawlinson, the General Manager of the facility, provided an engaging presentation on the plant’s operations. Stephen highlighted the advanced technology used to manage waste, extract energy, and mitigate environmental impacts, including the rigorous treatment of flue gases and the recycling of metals recovered during the process.

The tour, which followed Stephen’s presentation, offered a hands-on view of the plant’s operations, from waste intake to energy generation. Sheyi Lisk-Carew was among the attendees suited up in PPE to explore the facility and observe the different stages of the waste-to-energy process.
